Lucy Grealy

Lucy Grealy was born in Dublin in 1963 and moved to the United States in 1967. She became a poet and memoirist and wrote the critically acclaimed Autobiography of A Face in 1994. It describes her childhood and early adolescent experience with cancer of the jaw, which left her with some facial disfigurement and  details how subsequent bullying affected her. Grealy stated that she considered her book to be primarily about the issue of “identity.”
