Last night at the Baileys Prize awards party…

Last night at the Clore Ballroom at London’s Southbank Centre, we celebrated the 2016 winner of the Baileys Women’s Prize for Fiction, Lisa McInerney for The Glorious Heresies.

A host of famous faces and literary luminaries came together to find out this year’s winner and raise a Flat White martini to celebrate the 2016 shortlisted authors’ achievement.

The evening was hosted by our Co-Founder bestselling novelist Kate Mosse who regaled the audience with a wonderful speech about the 21st year of the Prize, saying: “Fiction can and does make a difference. It slips through the gap of what can  and cannot be said.”

Diageo Chief Marketing Officer Syl Saller gave a rousing speech about women’s endeavours, heralding the bravery of this year’s shortlisted authors for “sharing their inner world,” and indeed the bravery of women everywhere ‘”We all have the ability to put ourselves out there, to risk failure knowing that we can get back up again.”

2016 Chair of Judges Margaret Mountford then took to the stage to reveal this year’s winner, also thanking her fellow judges and commenting that judging this year’s prize had been both ‘enjoyable and educational.’ Margaret then announced Lisa McInerney as the 2016 winner of the Baileys Women’s Prize for Fiction and welcomed Lisa onstage to present her with a specially bound copy of her winning book, the £30,000 prize and the ‘Bessie’, a limited edition bronze figurine.
